Summary of Position Requirements:

Primary creative leader for the design and development of Library prototype plans and of standard Home designs. Responsible for managing a team of consultant architects, designers and engineers to design and test-build product prototypes for leadership approval and division use.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Team resource for reporting the industries and divisions´ top-selling plans and best practices for product and designs.
• Define R&D Design Guidelines for measuring success criteria for prototype plans and kitchen/bath designs.
• Lead the consultant team through all design phases for product and designs, including programming, conceptual design, leadership reviews, test-building and final approval.
• Partner with Standards Manager for design-development of approved product designs into standard prototype plans.
• Define and maintain the R&D specifications and standards.
• Support the Senior Project Architect to guide the division’s site-adaptation of R&D prototypes, including creation of new elevational styles.
• Manage a Research Designer to evaluate new industry products/techniques, including green design.

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture or construction-related field from an accredited institution
• Minimum 5 years work experience with national homebuilder, including regular use of AutoCAD.
• Strong experience in residential production design, able to layout floor plans, and visualize in 3D.
• Demonstrated experience in understanding and successfully fulfilling customer needs.
• Able to clearly articulate design recommendations and influence multiple points of view into alignment.
• Good working knowledge of residential construction techniques and can create buildable designs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, can present designs via AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Sketch Up programs
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products
• Ability to work independently, be a self-starter and be self-motivated
• Demonstrated problem resolution skills; able to adapt to rapid change
• Ability to stay organized and focused with shifting priorities in a very dynamic environment
