THE POSITION
The Director of Finance is responsible for overall transactional accuracy, policy
compliance and problem resolution. He/she will be accountable for the effectiveness and
efficiency of functions including: accounting, budgeting, financial
forecasting, payroll, credit and collection, information systems, transactional accounting, and
financial reporting.
The successful candidate will have the ability to lead continuous improvements in work
processes, champion customer centric environment, and represent the Finance department on
key business projects. He/she will have a proven track record of achievement in a similar role
within a financial shared services environment.
Director of Finance’s responsibilities include:
- General Ledger Account reconciliation compliance, manual journal entries, financial
analysis, accounting preparation and documentation for reconciliation
- Directs the maintenance of financial reporting systems, general ledger and accounting
practices including payables, receivables, inventories, fixed assets and payrolls for
business group.
- Manages all accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, credit, collection, payroll, and
financial record keeping functions at facilities.
- Assures that accounting records are prepared, maintained and reported in accordance
with generally accepted accounting principles and that all ledgers reconcile.
- Oversees preparation of accurate and timely budgets and forecasts.
- Conducts financial analysis at the highest level to interpret trends, variances from
budgets, variances from standards and provides advice and counsel to plants consistent
with established financial policy.
- Directs maintenance of fixed asset records and reports including depreciation accounts.
Establishes methods to assure proper capitalization and expensing by class.
- Approves schedules, procedures, systems and methods to ensure timely, informative
and accurate reporting of all financial data; and movement of voice and data
information. Provides such data and reports to corporation as required.
- Support all mergers, acquisitions, consolidations and divestitures
THE INDIVIDUAL
Candidates ideally come from a financial/accounting environment where
performance is measured by transactional accuracy and customer service parameters. This
experience will ideally been with a leading construction or engineering focused firm; one that is
recognized in the industry for outstanding customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will act as a key strategic partner with the Chief Accounting Officer and
will serve on the Commercial Group Executive Committee.
Key qualifications include:
- Business experience: a minimum of 10 years of accounting/finance experience, with at
least four years as a Controller or senior level accounting manager/director of a publicly
traded company.
- Accounting leadership: hands on experienced accounting/financial leader who has
GAAP accounting experience managing multi-division operations with annual revenues
greater than $250 million.
- Construction accounting practices: must be knowledgeable of percentage of completion
revenue recognition and related accounting standards set forth in SOP 81-1.
- Compelling leadership: the ability to manage staff and help articulate and drive core capabilities; the ability to get people to do things
differently and raise the capabilities of the organization; will have the qualities that
inspire confidence and trust and a “follow me”, roll up the sleeves style.
- Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to effectively communicate ideas to a diverse
constituency ranging from Board members to craft workers; must be able to work
collaboratively within an organization and foster a team environment;
- Solid educational credentials: a bachelors degree in accounting from a highly regarded
college or university; an advanced degree would be a plus.
- Professional Certification: Certified Professional Accountant in good standing strongly
preferred.
