Computers do many things well. However, evaluating resumes of prospective employees isn´t one of them. Yet, many HR departments use automated software to sort and grade resumes they receive, removing the human element from this crucial stage of the job sourcing process.
An applicant could be the most qualified candidate possible for the position advertised but if they forgot to use a targeted keyword (or used it too often), used an incompatible font, or gave the wrong job code #, their resume could be cast into oblivion. Furthermore, if HR didn’t understand the job posting well enough to program their software properly (which is frequently the case), the company might pass over the high caliber employees desperately needed to grow corporate revenue.
