Mechanical Superintendent (Afghanistan)

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Mechanical Superintendent primarily works with the project managers in the construction of new structures and maintenance and improvement of existing buildings. The superintendent directs and coordinates the activities of Carpenters, Equipment Operators, Iron Workers, etc. on site involved in the mechanical section of the project. The Construction Superintendent also ensures that the work progresses according to schedule, that material and equipment are delivered to the site on time, and that the activities of the various workers do not interfere with one another. The superintendent supervises all these activities and directs the foremen for the different trades or craft workers. This position reports directly to the Project Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Two years of supervisory experience in building construction work

CREDENTIALS AND/OR SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Thorough understanding of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods)
• Knowledge of building materials, tools, and machines
• Ability to read blueprints and specifications for building
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Experience on tank farm, fuel system and pipeline projects

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

• Organize and coordinate the mechanical work of craft employees on construction projects
• Keep cost records on work performed and materials
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, project managers, design architects and engineers
• Coordinates manpower, equipment and supplies
• Assure compliance with construction design guidelines and timelines
• Review engineering plans and specifications
• Work with project manager on establishing a budget
• Develop labor projections and ensure projects are managed within budget
• Perform required coordination with project architects, engineers and contractors
• Control and report project progress
• Must maintain a close and highly responsive relationship to the day to day project-related work, work fairly independently and receive a minimum of detailed supervision and guidance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
