Opus West To Develop Massive Stockton Industrial Park

"Opus West Corp. has acquired 474 acres of land in Stockton to develop the Opus Logistics Center – Stockton.

The developer says that at 8.2 million square feet it will be the largest new industrial park in Northern California.

Turner Construction To Build Detroit Medical Building

"The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute has abandoned plans to buy Detroit Riverview Hospital and will construct a new building on the Midtown campus it shares with the Detroit Medical Center.

Karmanos signed an agreement with Detroit-based Turner Construction. Co. Tuesday to build a structure with six operating rooms. Karmanos faced a deadline today from Michigan's Certificate of Need Commission to sign a construction contract to build six operating rooms on the DMC's campus. The state action requires construction to begin by Jan. 1.

Initially, the cancer institute planned a $95-million hospital on the DMC campus. But Michigan's failing economy slowed fund-raising efforts and forced Karmanos to scale back to a $47-million plan."

Shopping Center Planned For Swatara Township

" Florida-based Regency Centers plans a new shopping center along Route 322 East in Swatara Twp.

The development firm, which owns and manages about 400 retail properties nationwide, is planning Swatara Marketplace on 112 wooded acres.

Regency also developed the Silver Spring Square shopping center. That 500,000-square-foot center in Silver Spring Twp. will include a Target store and Wegmans supermarket. A Bed Bath & Beyond store opened yesterday. "

Chesterfield County Virginia Considering 4,998 Home Development

"Developers tonight will ask Chesterfield County planners to recommend approval of a rezoning request for what officials say is the largest residential development ever proposed for the eastern part of the county.

The planned Branner Station development would include a maximum of 4,998 residential units and commercial and recreational uses on about 1,614 acres in the county's Bermuda District.

In addition to the residential uses, the plan also calls for construction of two shopping centers and office uses."

Duke Sells Gwinnett County Land For Hotel Development

"Duke Realty Corp. sold 4.6 acres at Sugarloaf Parkway and Satellite Boulevard in Gwinnett County to Tifton, GA-based GS Development for the development of a $30 million Embassy Suites hotel at Sugarloaf, which will also feature a high-end steakhouse.

Duke Realty owned the property, sold it to GS Development and then simultaneously entered into a construction agreement to build the $30 million building. Duke Construction will build the 10-story, 234-room hotel, and GS Development will own and operate it. Construction is slated to begin in October, with delivery scheduled for December 2008. The hotel and restaurant is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the area. "

"Mark D'Agostino, owner of Meridian Construction Management of Spokane, the company managing the construction of the project, said that Kansas City, Mo.-based JE Dunn Construction Co. is the contractor. The architect, the Hnedak Bobo Group Inc. of Memphis, Tenn., has extensive expertise in designing casinos, he said.

"This is a really exciting project. We've been working with the tribe for the past seven years," said D'Agostino, who also declined to provide additional details.

Although tribes aren't required to contact local government for plan reviews or building permits when a project is slated for reservation or trust land, the Kalispels contracted with Spokane County to ensure that two of its planned buildings meet code and to review conceptual drawings."
