Hotel Proposed For Singer Island, Florida

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/

"Just weeks ago, voters thwarted builder Dan Catalfumo's $280 million plan to build shops, restaurants and a 28-story condo/hotel at the Ocean Mall by limiting buildings on the public beach to five stories. Villari now wants to tear down the Sands and build a 24-story time-share/hotel across the street from the Ocean Mall, where the height restriction does not apply.

"The difference here is that I own the property," said Villari, who owns a host of martial arts studios across the country. "What I want to do adds value to the Ocean Mall and it cleans up the area."

Villari's plan, which he's been shopping around city hall and the community redevelopment agency, will change the clientele and draw a more affluent crowd, he said. He and his partners, who make up the Singer Island Redevelopment Group, are serious about the project despite the message voters sent Catalfumo on March 13."
